Side-by-Side Comparison
Both procedures are forms of facelift surgery1 — they differ in how much tissue is addressed and how deeply the surgeon works.4

What Each Technique Actually Addresses
Mini Facelift
A mini facelift is effective for early to moderate jowling along the jawline and loss of jaw definition with good overlying skin quality.
Deep Plane Facelift
A deep plane facelift releases the retaining ligaments2 that hold the midface tissue in a descended position and lifts the entire composite as one unit. This addresses midface volume, deep nasolabial folds, and comprehensive neck rejuvenation.
Longevity Comparison
Deep plane results last 10–15 years; mini facelift results last 5–7 years. SMAS-based facelift longevity studies3 report durable results in the 7–12 year range, while the more limited mini approach is generally shorter-lived.
